When I was invited to play Ottawa Bluesfest this summer, I heard from so many people—seniors, parents without childcare, and neighbors facing physical or financial barriers—who simply couldn't make it to the big stage. I realized that if the community can't come to the music, I need to bring the music to the community.

I’ve been doing this for 20 years, and I’ve learned two undeniable truths: Music is the ultimate bridge for human connection, and great art inspires more great art. 613 SOUL is my way of removing the barriers to that inspiration.

The Mission: Music for All

613 SOUL is a neighborhood concert series created by Mikhail Laxton to provide high-caliber, soulful performances directly to local landmarks in Hog's Back, Vanier & Orléans—free of charge. By stripping away the costs and logistical headaches of major festivals, we ensure that the "live-off-the-floor" warmth of roots-soul is accessible to everyone in the neighborhood.

The 613 SOUL Mentorship Program

A core pillar of this initiative is the investment in the next generation of Ottawa talent. At the Orléans and Vanier Stops, A hand-pick local artist will open the show and enter a two-stage mentorship designed to protect and empower them:

The Sovereignty Session: A one-on-one mindset and strategy deep dive. I share the most importnt hard-earned lessons of my 20-year career to help young artists realize that they hold the power, not the labels or industry gatekeepers. We focus on building a career that favours fulfillment over the "hustle."

The Hands-On Production Workshop: On the day of the event, the mentee joins the crew for a "behind-the-scenes" hands on experiencein Event production. They learn exactly what goes into building an event from the ground up, fostering a deep appreciation for the craft and the team behind the music.
